An engagement photoshoot with a bit of a twist. Well let’s just say it was a surprise! So to start at the beginning… I was contacted by Darryn who was planning to surprise Kim with an engagement ring on her birthday. From my email and voice contact with him, the amount of thought and planning that was going into organising this “event” was obvious. He eventually settled on the gorgeous Tintswalo at Waterfall (hotel). Getting the timing right in terms of lighting was going to be a bit more tricky, as he didn’t want to rush Kim on her birthday, or create any hint that something “else” was going on. So I arrived early enough for us to work out the cues and positioning, as evidently I needed to be out of sight. I settled into place, left Darryn to organise the secluded little table near the pool, and we waited. On arrival, Kim was escorted to Darryn, champagne was poured, they chatted a bit (whilst I hid in a nearby “tower”) and then he got up, went round to Kim and on bent knee, proposed. The surprise on Kim’s face and the subsequent actions and reactions, were truly priceless. Eventually Darryn told her he’d planned this and waved to me on the tower. We then continued with an engagement couple shoot – which naturally was awesome, as they were both brimming over with laughter and excitement. Besides being a total honour to be part of such a special occasion, I adored working with them – they laughed and chatted and joked around endlessly. We finished up inside, at a baby grand piano. Darryn and Kim, wish you loads of happiness! And enjoy your preview.
